Geo-Caching 2007

What is Geo-caching?

Geo-caching is an adventure game for GPS users. The broader concept is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the Internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. The concept began as a fringe activity in 2000, but geo-caching has soared in popularity in recent years and has gone mainstream, attracting outdoor enthusiasts, families and corporate groups.

Algoma's Water Tower Inn, a full-facility resort hotel with ready access to the great northern Ontario outdoors, is running its own unique version of the game through its Trailhead Program. Participants who don't own GPS receivers can still find the way points using a compass and clues. The Inn has created a series of virtual and real Geo-Cache games positioned around the spectacular urban and wilderness vistas, trails and waterways of the Algoma landscape.
